Continuing our school themed projects we developed designs for a new playground at the Holmewood School, London, which is and independent co-educational day school for students with high functioning autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, language, communication and social pragmatic difficulties and those associated with specific learning difficulties.

The proposed design utilises the existing shape of the playground embracing three different zones but using them to create a series of three distinctive spaces (balancing, climbing & swinging) connected to each other. Each space has its own character, purpose and colour, but is linked to it’s neighbour by connecting elements such as an open permeable boardwalk, existing dark rubber safety surface or stepping stones.

Colour-coding the different zones also allows the staff and teachers to manage the use of the playground, to organise groups and activities as required.
