Colour & scent
- The owner of this small private garden in west of Edinburgh approach us due to our experience with low-maintenance perennial systems. Whilst she and her husband appreciate and enjoy an attractive garden a with all year around interest both lead busy lives and neither is a passionate gardeners.
Our low-maintenance perennials systems, which have been developed by universities in Germany seemed the perfect solution. Based on the theories from Germany we developed two different mixes. A colourful one for the sunnier front entrance and a scented one for the main garden in the back. Plant species are selected in a way that they complement each other and form solid an resistant communities and partnerships in which no species takes over or is out-competed by others retaining the variety of plants and the attractiveness of planting. Within a year of planting they should establish thick carpets reducing the need for weeding and maintenance. Traditional border mixes require a lot of attention in dividing too competitive plants, replanting annuals or bi-annuals and weeding.
