The Inverkeithing Playground Project
- The Playground Project plans to transform a vacant and derelict primary school site near the centre of Inverkeithing for a mix of uses that reflect the community’s strategic needs and priorities over the next 40 years.
Proposals include to transform one of the school buildings into a community hub and designing the new public realm as an inclusive space with a play/ activity zone, food growing, quiet/ amphitheatre space and an accessible route to the town centre. The overall site ‘The Phoenix Project’ has been developed in parallel with proposals led by Vivarium Trust to redevelop the main school building as co-housing for older people. It is proposed to be one of the Pathfinder Projects announced in the 2018-29 Scottish Government’s Programme for Government.
The overall project will be an exemplar, showing how community-led regeneration, working with the Scottish Government, NHS and other stakeholders can provide locally focused, place-based solutions to key national challenges of an ageing population, health & well-being, equality and the climate emergency.
