Callendar Park

Over the past years Falkirk Community Trust have steadily improved Callendar Park by introducing walking routes, fitness equipment, seats and benches. Taking this a step further the Trust appointed greenspace scotland in collaboration with UrbanPioneers to look at creating more visible and welcoming entrances, a signage and interpretation strategy and a review of grass, meadow and plant management.

Taking this a step further the Trust appointed greenspace scotland in collaboration with UrbanPioneers to look at creating more visible and welcoming entrances, a signage and interpretation strategy and a review of grass, meadow and plant management.

The revival of Callendar Park with its close proximity to the City Centre, is a vital part of Falkirk’s economic strategy. It’s unique attraction lies in its long and varied history stretching back to roman times. Sections of the Antonine wall are still visible and mark Callendar Park as a World Heritage Site. Much later, Callender House and it’s designed landscape were inserted into this historic site including the George Forrest Arboretum, a one of a kind in the UK or perhaps even world wide, honouring the ‘Indiana Jones plant hunter’ who spent much of his life in the mountains of west Yunnan and Tibet.

Callendar Park has many exciting stories to tell. The commission looks at ways to engage and inspire locals and visitors alike by telling its history from different angles.
