The Spark Park at Mearns Primary School creates an outdoor learning environment that inspires children’s learning and play within Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths (STEAM).
As part of the Architecture & Design Scotland Tests of Change initiative, the new Spark Park was developed with the school’s staff and pupils to enable children and adults to come together, connect and make a difference to the societies and communities they are part of locally and globally.
The design of the area was inspired by the spark logo created by school parents. The existing outdoor classroom forms the central point to the new Spark Park with ‘sparks’ branching out from the outdoor classroom forming smaller areas for each of the developed ideas by the school: Outdoor cooking, Bushcraft, Maths, Creative Arts and Science.
